Bokeh: The Emerging Creative Talent Award

Image
The Emerging Creative Talent Award which forms part of the annual Bokeh Fashion Film Festival has been announced, with a R50 000 prize being confirmed for SA’s top young creatives. The sparkling festival, now entering its 5th highly successful year, has always embraced and fostered local talent in the super-creative world of Fashion Films and this award is another clear indication of the commitment to stimulate and celebrate the massive local talent pool we have in SA. Bokeh Fashion Film hosted the Emerging Creative Talent launch at the Labia Theatre beginning of September and here are a few familiar faces we know within the creative industry who attended. The festival will issue a brief on the Bokeh website and social media pages on the 15th of October 2017, presenting the category guidelines and the film requirements. The teams then have two weeks to create treatments that accurately describe the films they wish to make, keeping in mind the original brief. Five films from

#TonyGumCalling presents ‘Ode to She’.

Image
Tony Gum, many words can describe this powerful force of a woman. The first time I heard of the name Tony Gum was with her Coca-Cola visuals that "broke the internet" on social media a couple of years ago and the way she captured the essence of a black woman with such a brand that has always been part of our black culture thus making her art innocent and purified – you simply have to see it to understand it, which creates a personal bond to the work. Tony Gum launches her first-ever solo exhibition in Cape Town at the Christopher Moller Gallery, Kloof Nek, Cape Town on Friday, 29 September, 2017. Aptly titled, ‘Ode to She’ , the solo exhibition centres around Tony Gum’s explorations, discoveries and understanding of the teachings by her elders of what it means to be a Xhosa woman. Defined by the artist as, ‘a letter to self, a poem and song, a calling’; the body of work launches five (5) days after South Africa officially celebrates National Heritage Day and a month aft

Launch: Lou Lou's two day event.

Fast becoming a fixture on the Cape Town dining scene, Lou Lou’s is the latest offering from South African restauranteur, Sergio Zurini. We were invited to attend the two day event with Friday specifically for the media and Saturday we partied the night away. With over 18 years’ experience in the industry and known for launching several successful venues including the immensely popular Churchills Bar in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg – Zurini has now brought his distinctive and edgy style to Cape Town in the form of Lou Lou’s. Sergio wanted to create an environment that was different, unique and international. Lou Lou’s offers patrons a contemporary take on traditional tapas; fusing the freshness and simplicity of Asian and Italian flavours to create an array of sophisticated menu offerings. On Friday, the media was treated to the delicious menu with a whole variety of tapas while sipping on champagne or wine. With an emphasis on seasonal produce and relaxed dining that leans into the

Harvest Collection by Pichulik: SS18

Harvest: A Homage to the natural Called Harvest, Katherine-Mary calls this collection of apparel and jewellery,“a celebration of the power and meaning of cycles in life and in nature."Summer is about more than enjoying the sun. It is a time of sensuality and pleasure that are necessary to feed our souls," she says."As women, we are strongly attuned to the meaning of cycles –a time for rest and introspection, a time for expression and doing, a time for nurturing and patience," she says. "The collection began at the end of last summer when I gathered shells, pebbles and pieces of driftwood on the beach. As we moved into winter, I began considering the bounty of foraging and reaping the rewards of cycles that exist both in us and in nature, and researched ancient harvest festivals in Christian, Islamic, Jewish and pagan cultures. Although each had their own rituals and symbols, all contained elements of ceremony, music, dancing and feasting in an expressio
