The Bromwell, Spirit of the City.

POSEZA attended a fashion show at the Bromwell event last week in the trendy and arty Woodstock. For those that don’t know the Bromwell is a café, deli and boutique that stocks some of the country’s top designers and some of Cape Town’s most talented labels in Woodstock, 250 Albert road and a step away from the popular Old Biscuit Mill. Visiting the area would be the best way to spend a lazy Saturday morning/afternoon to experience ‘The Spirit of the City’. Woodstock for us is an area where we’ve found some of the best delis, trendiest cafés, thrift shops that sell antiques, vintage and recycled deco items we love how It’s become the harbor for creative local talent and all things quirky. Stepping into the venue we were greeted by helpful ushers and models posing in a window display in ensembles that would feature in the show and we could get up close and touch the fabrics and even pose with the models. The drinks were provided by Absolute Vodka and G.H.MUMM Champagne, Bottle Green South Africa water and we were treated to some of the cutest and tastiest canapés we’ve had in while as we made our way upstairs to browse through some of the racks in the boutique.
The designers that stood out for us there were Blackeyed Susan and Ruff Tung who are Cape Town Based and as we were enjoying that experience and picking out the key items for fashion this season they announced that the show would be starting. The show started off with a short video of a woman trying on different outfits for different scenarios of her life and we think that was the theme of the show outfits appropriate every occasionin the modern woman’s life. The opening look was a stunning maroon coat with gathers and cascades that was paired with a little black dress the coat was clearly the statement piece and you can throw that over anything and look effortless. An outfit we thought was great was the monochrome ensemble paired with knee high stockings with a white knit shift dress and ankle boots now that’s an outfit for a woman who’s into the retro/mod look it’s an outfit appropriate for the day perhaps a lunch date at the Bromwell with friends. We also saw what we’ve named coat of the season in a black and white hound’s-tooth paired with a black crop top and pencil skirt which is ultra-chic and another option in camel/beige what’s great about these coats is their practicality, their warm and they drape well and nip in the right areas of the female form and they look great with everything form fitting like body con dresses or fitted trousers or jeans with a tapered leg.
There were also great individual core basics we saw in the show that would help build the perfect wardrobe for this season such as the trendy cut out boots, a white faux fur jacket that resembles rabbit fur, the tie up knit cardigan with a hoody that could be paired with a pair of tights and boots to run and around and do errands in or as seen in the show paired with a lace top and skirt in a metallic camel colour palette for a fabulous alternative. They’d be no show if there wasn’t a party dress and in this show there were two that stood out one being the black flared laser cut leather dress which we think flatters women with curves and draws emphasis on the waistline and legs and of course the metallic black body con dress with Aztec print. The two favourites that we thought were show stoppers ’ensembles that make an entrance’ were the high waisted tea length skirt in a retro floral print and the black feminine gown with gathers tucks and other great detail that’s sexy but not vulgar both garments would be garments that need women with confidence and grace. There wasn’t a lot for the gents but the items they had were great we loved the boots for starters because of their versatility you could wear them with a pair of jeans for a casual look or even with a pair of trousers if you want to be more dressed up. We also loved the sleeveless grey trench jacket that would look great with a turtle neck knit and jeans and of course the printed shirt for a night great night out.
We thought that the event was a major success we truly had an amazing time and look forward to visiting the Bromwell soon, POSEZA would also like to thank The Little Black Book PR and Events for putting together such beautiful and enjoyable experience, The Bromwell and their staff for providing a warm and relaxed environment and truly experiencing ‘The Spirit Of The City’with them Absolute Vodka and G.H.MUMM Champagne for the lovely drinks.
