The Great Zambezi Exhibition

Image
PoseZA attended The Great Zambezi Exhibition by Ardmore Ceramic Art’s which flocked of brightly coloured birds and an abundance of wildlife - which includes hippos, elephants, black rhinos, wild dogs, cheetah and lions - can be found around the Zambezi River. And it’s this diversity of fauna and flora which has inspired Ardmore Ceramic Art’s ‘The Great Zambezi’ exhibition, which staged at The Cellars – Hohenort in Cape Town from February 17 to February 19. Running through parts of Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe – birthplace of Ardmore founder, Fée Halsted – the river and its fauna and flora have been imaginatively realised in ceramics featuring hippos ridden by local people, elephants and crocodiles which evoke memories of the stories of Rudyard Kipling and Rider Haggard, troops of vervet monkeys chattering in the forest canopy and Flame Lilies and Scadoxis flowers interacting with colourful Narina Trogans and Angolan Pita birds. Press Release : Cape Town Carnival

Image
With only 28 days to go until the Cape Town Carnival on 18 March, all teams are working at full steam to make the event truly spectacular. “ Many months of creative workshopping are going into the design and concepts that will bring this year’s theme, AMAZA ! - Ocean Odyssey, to life ,” says Brad Baard, creative director of the Cape Town Carnival. “ A team of up to 90 people work on creating the floats, sculptures, puppets and costumes at our Maitland workshop .” Float building takes a sizeable team of designers, metalworkers and electricians, who break down and repurpose floats used in previous years to keep the carnival as green as possible. The costume department creates not only the outfits but also backpacks, headgear and accessories. “ We have nearly 2 000 performers who need to be in costume for the carniva

My Natural Hair launch

Image
PoseZA attended the launch for My Natural Hair last week at the Bungalow Restaurant in Camps Bay were we talking and laughed about our natural hair journey. An intimate event for natural hair movement from all races. A Multicultural Revival In Natural Hair Care. Creator & brand ambassador of My Natural Hair, Catherine Williams started her hair journey like so many other young African women; being traumatized through time-consuming processes which included painful brushing, chemical laden relaxants and socially “ redefined ” norms. As South African Black consumers continue to embrace the natural hair movement, its impact is greatly shaping the haircare market. The sales of all styling products, shampoos, conditioners & oils have increased enormously, with the desire for healthy products leading the way. The “ ethnic ” haircare industry has undergone quite a transformation over the past years and that should continue heading into the next decade. As more and more consumers ar

Lexus South African Menswear week

For the past two months I have had to keep a secret of from a lot of people and ofcourse from you guys and my social media follower. I got a text from someone I now call a friend, Ollie, who I knew at that time as a model. I literally had to read that text about ten times just to make sure I was not seeing things and ask my friend to read it to me once again: ' Hi Owethu, I have a proposal and hope you can help. Tokyo James is in need of a Stylist to help him with his showcase at the Lexus South African Menswear week. Please confirm if I can send him your number '. I replied with ' YES ' and could not think of anything else to write as I was dubious.  Tokyo James is one of a kind menswear designer, with a story to tell all the time. I got introduced to this creative soul in 2015, when SAMW just launched in Cape Town and have been following his magnificent career ever since. The way he blends perfect tailored suits with a modern edge always gives you a sense of seeing th
