August Issue

 EDITORS NOTE…

It just seems every time we put together an issue for our readers we are slowly but surely getting closer to the vision we want and a little better each time. I know this might sound forward on our part because we haven’t even heard what you have to say about this new post  but we feel as if when the inspiration for your spreads slowly starts to translate and become clearer you know you’re getting somewhere(We as the Pose team pride ourselves a lot when it comes to our spreads), with that said there is still tons of space for improvement in other aspects of the blog that is.

In this Post we enjoyed exploring some of the many options of Public transportation in Cape Town despite of the freezing weather and stares from curious people that use public transport when we shot our fashion spread; in the end we were pleased with the results.
We also took a brief look at one of the special market in Loop Street that happens once a month on Saturday mornings with one of kind vintage items that are sure to add character to ones closet and home.
For a change the confessions of a fashion whore advices us on how important it is to change things up a bit in our approach when it comes to shopping
We were also fortunate enough to get invited to the CSquared  Midnight Express Carducci fashion show at Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion Week. Their focus was Spring/Summer 2013 which was kind of a wakeup call for us that we were behind in content as when it comes to seasons because the world is already starting to focus on spring and summer, with that said the show was full of color, and interesting fabrics and of course menswear something some of our readers have been asking us to do for a while.
We also have an interesting article about the ins and outs of blogging for those that have ideas or an interest in blogging.
This post is a warm wrap up of the cold winter season that is going out and has ideas on what to look forward to in the coming fun and bright spring summer season that is approaching. We hope you enjoy it.

CSquared Midnight Express Resort Fashion Show

Fashion shows come and go every season. They are most characterised by the air kissing, fake laughs and pretending that I understood when the other fashionista commented on the piece on the runaway calling it "Resort chic." To be able to stage a show that people will remember I can imagine must be a tall order, a show that is not dominated by monotonous wall, that have as much inspiration as a cow giving birth. Be it, what fashionistas would term it very modern "Runway", that's as practical as a polo neck in summer.
Walking into the Reserve Bar for the Csquared show, one could sense it from the vibe that this was a different affair, less stuff and less air kissing. The decor was of something whimsical, complimented with a strong statement bar and furniture that brought it to 2012.
One thing they could have anticipated was the number of people who would be attending the show. To prevent the people at the back shouting "get down I can't see" but maybe that's what made it work so well, the fact that it was raw, and straight to the point.
What Csquared gets so well is their consumers and giving them what they want and that is their strength as a label and this time round they had bursts of colour but in Csquared style. They kept to the season in dressing the Csquared man, very bright greens, yellows and reds that are complimented with check shirts channelling country chic.
The little detail that stood out that I found brave was that some of the pants intentionally didn't have belts. The belt seemed to be replaced by a piping.
As one of their statement pieces they featured a coat that embodied the whole line and was the epitome of what best describes the whole collection.
Usually a coat would be viewed as a one season item but what CSquared did was to create an item that could transcend easily into another season, it looked like it was inspired by beach furniture, which gave it the light summer feel. However the material looked raw, unspoiled, and almost heavy which could lead one to carry it into winter.
Csquared did not only give what we have come to expect from their man, but they also gave us inspiration. And they managed to make this fashion pretend, air kissing business a party and great fun.

What is Blogging anyway?

Inspired by famous bloggers in South Africa such as Sandiso Ngubeni and many more, I decided to do some research about what many of us are trying to perfect and make ones living, “Blogging”. Of course the first place I went to was on blackberry, Google etc. The amount of bloggers out there is enormously scary and the responses on the search engine weren’t clear.

Next on the agenda was to take it to the streets and find out if people know what blogging is. A lot of us always presume that everyone in the world is blind to the fact not everyone around us is a fashion, entertainment or art lover; there are people that couldn’t be concerned with such things.
The surprise was not everyone has facebook, twitter as they have more “serious” things to worry about but none the less this was a lesson learnt.
First I went through my peers that really opened my eyes as I thought we had the same meaning of what blogging is all about. Our fashion editor, Anam Mhlwatika says “Blogging is a platform for freedom of choice. Youb convers with yourself and share with the world when you done. Many blogs out there are for celebrities, fashion and food purposes.

Soon-to-be designer Salomea Constance says “I have not been a fan for blogging at first but as time passed, blogging become ones aspect on life. You learn a lot about everything through bloggers from personal experiences to which colour palette trend is trending.”

Dumisani from CTV had this to say “well not every writer is a journalist. Blogging is used for all sorts of purpose, it’s also used as a PR/Marketing tool. It’s a much freer medium and is not meant specifically for journalistic purposes. You don’t have to be a journalist to be a blogger. Journalism requires certain skills which are not necessarily in order to be a blogger. Everyone can have a blog and it’s up to the owner what to use the blog for.”

To close it off, I have to quote Sandiso Ngubane statement on blogging which made me wake up and realize that this could either break my pursuing career in the publication world or make it by opening doors. This is what he had said, “Bloggers have various reasons for blogging. For some it’s all about recording what people are wearing, others post pictures of themselves going about their global, fashion-filled adventures, the way Bryanboy does. Personally, the journalist in me want to give readers factual fashion news with an informed opinion while, as a blogger, I want my personality to come through in sharing my love for fashion. Blogging is ultimately about sharing, which is why, what-ever else our reasons are for embarking on a time-consuming and typically unpaid pastime, the audience matters. Without sharing and interaction, blogging would be futile exercise- and that’s the reason the future of blogging is up to the readers, when they choose which blogs are worth their precious time.

Vintage Market

once a month on a Saturday we see s fashion frenzy gather on the ever busy Long Street in numbers, where all vintage collectors dressed in one of a kind attire, specific to whatever era they’re trying to portray.
The conversations vary from fashion and accessories, art, deco/furniture, literature and technology with all these topics being readily available for purchase right there over good coffee and cheerful cupcakes.

CONFESSIONS OF A FASHION WHORE

well here it is with the rest of my other special pieces I don’t have a name for it yet but I’m really excited about it, now I know someone out there might think oh it’s just another leatherette ,well those that aren’t concerned with fashion that is, but for me and those reading this it makes sense this is how.
The two most important things that grabbed me most about it is the color bottle green and the sherling trimming on the collar two of winters mini trends jewel tones and a lot of sherling in jackets, I know this might not be a lot of sherling but it’s certainly enough for me,  for a while I wasn’t sure of what jewel item piece I wanted at first I was set on pants I mean I could do a ton of things with a pair of pants or maybe a jersey but I don’t know when I saw this it just seemed to make sense to my look as a whole.
Now usually when I go shopping I usually just go where I’m supposed to because I’ve already identified what I want from a previous visit when the funds aren’t available anyway the point is this was one of those reckless buys THAT INVOLVED A LOT OF WALKING and hey I have no regrets even if it did kill my limited budget or my feet.
