Gert-Johan says NO to Violence Against Women through his collection

Fashion Week S/S 2013 Sea Urchin collection.

Gert-Johan-Coetzee summer spring collection 2013 is one of a kind. It is not just couture at its best but has a meaning behind it as well, Stop violence against women". If you depict the name Sea Urchin, you will understand that it means "A marine echinoderm that has a spherical or flattened shell covered in mobile spines, with a mouth on the underside and calcareous jaws". Now the garments for this collection are exactly that, a little fairytale but with reality in it.
“That is why I decided to dedicate my Spring/Summer 2013 collection to women who face violence, and why I approached Shout, whose message that we should stand up and not be silent really resonates with me, said Gert in an interview with Virgin Active.

As we all know, last year Gert chose Thando Hopa as the face of his collection, showing what he can do to raise awareness of Albinism. This years collection Thando wanted to help Gert with the awareness of Violence against women and walked the ramp once again in a Gert creation, white turtle neck with spike to heaven on the shoulders.
Thando later said this in an interview "Gert has shown what he can do in raising awareness of albinism, so I know this initiative will be just as powerful,”
I am delighted to see that the are some designers out that that use their creativity to such good use rather than always showing face at social events and doing nothing.
So this post is 2 thumbs up for Gert and to keep up the lovely work he does.

Salute
