WDC CAPE TOWN 2014 LAUNCHES “DESIGN SCOUT” APP AT DECOREX
The World Design
Capital Cape Town 2014 (WDC 2014) implementing company, Cape Town Design NPC,
today launches a Facebook app called Design Scout that sees citizens of Cape
Town and beyond becoming more involved in this initiative.
The app was developed for locals to identify
how the four themes of WDC 2014 are “living” in Cape Town. The themes are:
·
African Innovation. Global Conversation
·
Today for Tomorrow
·
Beautiful Spaces. Beautiful Things
·
Bridging the Divide
“Let’s
celebrate and share the ideas, projects, products and creative solutions that
will shape the transformation of our city, continent and country through
design. Using design technology as a way of communication, the Design Scout App
allows people to share their discoveries and must-see, must-try moments on the
Facebook platform,” said Cape Town Design CEO, Alayne Reesberg.
With the first signature event
signalling the start of the year-long WDC 2014 programme only months away, the
Design Scout app was created as an opportunity to have a personal say in the
year-long programme next year. The Cape Town Design team will be on hand,
supported by local students, to engage with visitors to the exhibition stand at
Decorex and show them how the App works.
The WDC 2014 exhibition
stand at Decorex has been built out of plastic black and yellow crates, which will
be re-purposed as part of the interior decor in the new offices for Cape Town
Design, situated in the Fringe District. Bucket Stools designed and created by
PedersenLennard will also complement the stand. Six iPads have been set up for
visitors to experience first hand the journey thus far, updates on the curation
process from the first call for public submissions, and a glimpse at some of
the programme elements for 2014.
