Jinn x Arnreuby Fashion Show: AFRIKANAH
Jinn x Arnreuby Fashion Show:
07/08/2014 marked the day that Arnreuby (Odysseus clothing label) partnered with Jinn ( jewel and bag designer Jeanine Benjamin) to showcase their latest collections. I was first introduced to Odysseus when he was on The Cut S.A. His creativity made him the runner up for the showbut from there on he made sure that his name will not be forgotten. He showcased at numerous fashion weeks throughout the past 5-8 years such as MBFWCT etc.
Arnreuby is a ready to wear label with African details. His latest collection called "Afrikanah" consist of African prints infused with a modern take on silhouettes and separated. While chatting with him hours prior to the event at his studio, I had the privilege to see the collection and see him work. The amount of passion and love he has for fashion was inspiring. He showed me the entire process of the collection from the inspiration, the mood boards, the pattern work to him actually sewing the collection all alone. The amount of work put into making a collection is no joke, while I was sipping on my green tea and having a slice of cake he was explaining the entire process.
We left his studio to meet the models for the finale fitting. We arrived while the models were still doing make up and hair and what was surprising is the relationship he has with his models. Apparently he has used them for most of his shows and I could see that as they had their own conversations and lingo (talk). They were treated with some champagne, and again green tea while the fitting was taking place. He mentioned while we were at his studio that the garments made were fitted to each model as if they were his clients which he gives all his attention to detail and fit when he creates a look for his clients. An intimate and full on hands procedure.
While chatting with the models, they mention that this is the first time they have seen Odysseus so nervous and stressed. This could be due to it being an independent show he and Jeanine created and meaning that everything is on top of their heads but he mentions that this is only an opening to his collection as he will also be showing at the Durban Fashion Fair which kicks off on the 19/08/2014, 20 looks which 13 more looks need to be finished excluding the ones he is showcasing.
We head to the venue and he is surprised by the turn out as he mentioned that he had been having nightmare that no one was going to show up. A lot of people are standing outside having a smoke break and chatting and we have to apologies and ask for them to open space to enter the venue. We head to the backstage where the dream becomes reality and the models are getting into their creations and last touches on make-up and hair is done. He amps his models and thanks them for being so patient with him and the first models leaves the backstage and show begins.
